the drama that has been sensationally reported even before production began, has finally, officially started filming.
……………………………….This is the main character in the drama, Bae Yong Joon's return to the small screen some four years after Winter Sonata. In order to portary the powerful and informidable Great King in the drama, Bae Yong Joon had put on 5kg of weight. Right from the beginning of the year, Bae Yong Joon had immersed himself to prepare for his role; he has been exercising and sculpting his body as well as practising horseback riding. Not long after, even before the cast was decided, the production team called for a press conference. After the press conference, most of the market talk and online talk were speculation about the male and female leads for this 30 billion korean won [US$32m] drama production.

Bae Yong Joon was the first male character to be decided. As for the female lead, it appeared the production team had a hard time casting the role. Eventually they decided on an open audition, they would use a newcomer to act opposite Bae Yong Joon as his love interest Suzeeny. However, up to now, even though shooting has started, the role of Suzeeny remains undecided.

In January 2006, movie actress Moon So Ri accepted the role of Seo Ki Ha and added her name to the cast. Thereafter, on 16th March 2006, the crank-in ceremony was conducted in Jejudo, and it marked the start of the shooting.

Another topic of interest is Bae Yong Joon's appearance fee for each episode. The Judge Heo Seongwook, single-judge Civil 43 Court in Seoul Central District Court revealed on 2 that he has given a judgement against the plaintiff in a lawsuit asking for damage compensation, claiming that the drama 'Tae wang Sa Shin Gi' has violated a copyright of a comic book 'Nation of Wind', which was brought on by Mr. Kim Myoseong, comic artist of the original comic book, against Ms. Song Jina, writer for broadcasting.

The judge told in his decision that 'Although the two writings have similar points in some parts in rough story-lines and characteristics of the characters, it is difficult to see that there are 'substantial similarities' as the synopsis, a writing by the defendant, is not the final writing but an arrangement of outlines of a drama scenario which she is to write in the future, while the book by the plaintiff is a comic book in completed form that was published as a book.'

The judge explained, 'EVen if the synopsis by the defendant is the secondary writing that could violate copyright of the plaintiff, historic facts are public domains which one cannot see that it belongs to any one writer's copyright, even if (defendant) used the same historical background and facts, one cannot see that as violation of copyright.

'The 'Nation of Wind' and the 'Tae Wang sa Shin Gi' have storyline with Kogooryeo Period as its background that four characters who are related to Gods would appear and head toward God City centering aroound a king chosen by them.


Mr. Kim, comic artist sued against writer Song Jina claiming damage compensation in June last year, saying that MBC history drama 'Tae Wang Sa Shin Gi', which began shooing recently with seveal tens of billion won production cost, 'had violated cipyright.'

Kim PD told about his experience in local Japan where he recently visited saying, "Not only BYJ shrine was built but also a chair BYJ sat down was permanently preserved, and when I said I was the director of the 'Great King Four Gods Story', the Japanese told, 'what an honor on earth like that as you direct Yon-sama's work.'

On the other hand, regarding the reason for casting BYJ as the Great King Kwang-gae-toe, main character of the 'Great King Four Gods Story', Kim PD told, "BYJ is sincere and wonderful actor, " and praised, "For example, as soon as he finished talking with me about Great King Kwang-gae-toe, he right away headed to horse riding club to learn riding orses, and later on he would say 'I am considering to buy a horse from the beginning'-to that extent, he is an actor different from others in his attitude toward work.

The 'Great King Four Gods Story' willbe shot from September to June of next year with aim at complete production before airing and is to air for the first time in around September next year.

Jeong Jinyoung, to challange drama as BYJ's 'right arm'

Film actor Jeong Jinyoung will challance drama acting as BYJ's 'right arm'. Jeong Jinyoung will appear as Bookhyeonmoo(North Black Turtle(?)) Hyeongo, status of head of 'Four Gods'(四神) in the 'Great King Four Gods Story'(Script by Song Jina, Direction by Kim Jonghak), and will take the role of awakening rest of Four Gods, leading them, and helping leading character Damdeok(played by BYJ).

Hyeongo, Jeong Jiniyoung is to play, is a role, who will keep staying next to BYJ in drama like shadow and help him, although they bicker each other, and it is a character having both wit and wisdom

Saying, "As this is weighty role over the entire drama, we cast with the most emphasis on the acting capability," the Cheongam Entertainment, the producing company explained the background of the casting, "We thought Jeong Jinyoung, having shown solid acting capability in theaterical productions and films all the while, was the most appropriate."

Having been awarded the Best Supporting Actor Award in Daejong(Big Bell) Award FIlm Festival with film 'Promise'(1998), Jeong Jinyoung has appearned in many films such as 'Hwangsan Field', 'Dalma, Let's play', and 'Wild Card', etc., and 'Great King Four Gods Story' is the first one he plays a major character in drama.

A source in this drama told, "We thought (his) casting would not be easy because Jeong Jinyoung is a person with strong pride of being a film actor," and "However, he decided to appear as he has faith in the quality of drama and planning ability of making pre-broadcasting production."
